About the event
Through this class, participants will learn how to create a fall ikebana arrangement using dried branches and other fall-inspired material. For the arrangement, use both dried branches and fresh materials to symbolically mark the transition of seasons and/or to show transformation. A dialogue should be created to showcase what still grows and what begins to fade. Dried branches will be the focus and main material; therefore, these materials can be arranged differently than fresh materials. They can be arranged in positions independent of the container (outside the container, interconnected with other material, and or upside down). Dried branches can also show lightness or rough texture which cannot be expressed by fresh materials. Try to think creatively about the positioning, spacing, and overall composition. Principles of design can help you make an effective arrangement such as contrasting surfaces of dried and fresh materials, balancing the different materials, and/or creating emphasize with the main material of the dried branches. Overall, enjoy collaborating with the material to create a fall-inspired ikebana arrangement.
• Class will be held at Yanagi Botanic Arts Studio located inside Yobel/ The Look Up Gallery building.
• You may bring your own container or purchase a container; choose the best option for you.
•Reference photo shows an example of the arrangement that will be created and the materials used may differ in the actual class.
