About the event

Through this class, participants will experience and focus on creating a holiday inspired ikebana arrangement.  The style will be “freestyle” so each participant can create an arrangement with their own creative expression.  Seasonal plant materials with traditional holiday colors such as red, green, and white will be selected.   Décor items will be inserted into the arrangement to give it that extra holiday spirit specifically, MizuhikiMizuhiki is the traditional Japanese art of knot-typing that uses decorative cords or paper strings for a variety of purposes such as but not limited to embellishing gifts, envelopes, souvenirs, and can express emotions.  For ikebana, Mizuhiki are used for special occasions and/or holidays; use them to show extra feeling/emotion within your arrangement.  If décor items other than Mizuhiki are used, then make sure these items go either in the back or in the middle of the arrangement to add fullness and as not to distract from the beauty of the ikebana creation.

Enjoy arranging with your own creativity, personality, and skills.  Self-expression and a collaboration with the materials will be a key component when creating your arrangement.  You do not need to follow any fixed rules on lengths, and angels of stems.  Instead, look at the materials carefully to see which parts stand out and think about how they should be arranged so that those parts can be shown in the best possible way.  Like all classes, a demo will be given at the beginning to help participants better understand the materials and techniques for their freestyle arrangement.   At the end of the class, participants will be able to take home their holiday inspired ikebana arrangement in a container.

• Class will be held at Yanagi Botanic Arts Studio located inside Yobel/ The Look Up Gallery building.

•Since you’ll be going home with an arrangement, then bring a box or some type of carrying device to transport your arrangement home safely.

•Reference photo shows an example of the arrangement that will be created and the materials used may differ in the actual class.  The container will be different for the actual class.
