About the event
Through this class, participants will learn how to create an ikebana arrangement known as Morimono. Morimono translates to piled up or heaped up things. In this arrangement, the main attraction is using fruits or vegetables as a material. Although fruits and vegetables are normally seen as food items, try to observe them as materials of ikebana. The goal is to discover new and exciting ways to use this different material and it is important to take notice of their true beauty and potential. In Morimono, it is helpful to think outside the box and experiment. These arrangements tend to be unique, funky, and odd with a dash of beauty. Once you have this new perspective on materials, then your arrangements can expand with new charm and personality.
The participant may arrange only fruits and vegetables or they may be combined with plants such as but not limited to branches, leaves, or flowers. Depending on your composition, you may or may not need a container. Other sources of arranging could be with a basket, tray, plate, or even a large leaf. Think about your composition and use whatever best works for you.
• Plant materials and fruits/vegetables will be both purchased for this class. However, if you would like to bring in your own fruits/vegetables then feel free to do so.
•You may borrow a container from the studio for this class or bring your own container.
• Class will be held at Yanagi Botanic Arts Studio located inside Yobel/ The Look Up Gallery building.
•Reference photo shows an example of the arrangement that will be created and the materials used may differ in the actual class.
