About the event
Through this class, participants will focus on creating a peppermint inspired ikebana arrangement using only red and white materials. Such materials may include but are not limited to, mitsumata branches and/or branches that have been sprayed white or red. Special red and white Mizuhiki paper strings have been ordered from Japan for this class as well. Mizuhiki is the traditional Japanese art of knot-typing that uses decorative cords or paper strings for a variety of purposes such as but not limited to embellishing gifts, envelopes, souvenirs, and can express emotions. These paper strings are made from washi paper and are harden with glues and/or a starch mixture. For ikebana, Mizuhiki are used for special occasions and/or holidays; use them to show extra feeling/emotion within your arrangement. The style will be “freestyle” so each participant can create an arrangement with their own creative expression. Try your best to create a well-balanced red and white arrangement and to evoke the essence of the peppermint.
• Class will be held at Yanagi Botanic Arts Studio located inside Yobel/ The Look Up Gallery building.
•You may purchase a container for this class or you may bring your own container; choose the best option for you.
