About the event
Through this class, participants will learn how to make an ikebana arrangement where the straight lines are playing the central role. There is no limit to the number of straight lines being inserted into the container; go with whatever feels right. Various avenues can be taken to emphasize straight lines such as but not limited to: expressing rhythm, extending the materials to create a “spreading form”, or creating geometric shapes. Pay attention to the materials; look at their natural lines and/or envision how you could make them into straight lines. One of the basic principles of viewing plants with an ikebana mindset, is to interpret the plants as lines. Whenever you look at any plant, try to pick various lines out, and choose the most exciting ones to be used in your arrangement.
• All materials, tools, and containers are supplied and the participants do not need to bring anything to the class. However, a participant may choose to bring their own container if they wish.
• Class will be held at Yanagi Botanic Arts Studio located inside Yobel/ The Look Up Gallery building.
•Reference photo shows an example of the arrangement that will be created and the materials used may differ in the actual class.
