Showa Kinen Park

Showa Kinen Park has an interesting history. In 1921, it was opened as a Japanese military air base and then in 1945 the US requisitioned this air base. Until the end of 1969, this area functioned as a US army air base in Tachikawa. It wasn't until 1975 that the Prime Minister decided to reclaim this land for something useful. The Prime Minister's office reviewed a series of projects to commemorate 50 years of the reign of the Emperor Showa. Showa Kinen Park was built on the vacant land which was once known as the Tachikawa air base. In 1983, the park officially opened and the grounds have been gradually developing ever since. This park is amazing and overwhelmingly large. It definitely takes a full day to experience the whole park and even then, you most likely have missed something. Most of these pics are from the specific Japanese Garden area, but the park is so vast that I'll definitely be posting more pics of other areas of the park once I investigate them.
